Registered apprenticeship
Get paid to learn a skilled trade — no tuition debt.
A paid, on-the-job training program with a mentor, plus some classroom hours. You earn a wage from day one and it rises as your skills do, ending in a nationally recognized credential.
- Time:
- 1–5 years, paid the entire time
- Cost:
- $0 — you’re paid to train (often with benefits)
- You come out with:
- Journey-worker credential + steady wage (electrician, plumber, lineworker, HVAC, machinist, and more)
In Arizona: Arizona runs registered apprenticeships through the Arizona Apprenticeship Office (DES) and Arizona@Work — building trades, healthcare, IT, and advanced manufacturing.
How to start
- 1Search open Arizona programs on apprenticeship.gov (filter by ZIP).
- 2Visit an Arizona@Work center — they place apprentices for free.
- 3Ask a trades union local (IBEW, plumbers/pipefitters, etc.) about their next intake.
